What is optical image stabilization

OIS advantage

Electronic Image Stabilization

This electronic image stabilization method is totally different, in which the problem is solved in the Programming Level itself when the optical signal has been changed to Digital Signal. All Camera also called Charged Coupled Device (CCD) live CCDs are Mezhud which is an Array of many Light Sensors and which are arranged in a Grid. 
 
In this technique, the processor divides the image into small pieces and then compares them with the previous frame. This shows that the motion that was taken was born from the moving object or from an unwanted Shake and it makes corrections accordingly. Now when you shift an image, to fill it up For this you need a large CCD or we have to give some area of ​​existing CCD so that it can capture the image for Off-Screen Purpose. There is also a possibility of the image getting bad, but if your camera has more resolution then it will not make much difference.
 

EIS is the advantage

  • The camera module is very small. 
  • It is not very expensive.

EIS is dis-advantage

  • It requires Frame Cropping. 
  • Here the resolution decreases slightly.

How does OIS work

The method of working of OIS is very simple, to stabilize the image, the optical path of the sensor has to be changed. These are real-time compensation so that there is no alteration and no image degradation. In this, the Lens assembly is moved parallel to Image Plane. Here the Shake detecting sensor (Gyro Sensors) is used, which sends the information to the Microcomputer so that they convert it into a Drive Signal which finally moves the Lens Assembly so that the image can be projected to the correct location ie the Sensor. Also before being converted to digital format so that it can set your motion off. This is the basic principle of OIS.
 

Multi-Frames Digital Image Stabilization

 
If we talk about video recording, both OIS and EIS works according to the real-time image stabilization mechanism. To do this, we have to see both what happened before and after the frame. EIS works by taking note of the motion of the current frame and the previous frame (Backwards in time). But in some techniques, video can be stabilized by looking at both the forward frame (next frame) and backward frame (previous frame). To do this, they have to analyze many frames in both directions. 
 
As such our main objective is how to stabilize the video by placing the camera in the virtual plane. Along with that, looking at ½ second instead of 1/15 second of the footage, it can make a huge difference especially when the direction of motion change between the same interval.

Difference between Digital and Optical Image Stabilization

 
We are talking about optical image stabilization (OIS). Let me tell you that there are cameras or lens sensors in it and sense motion moves the optical part of the camera in the opposite direction. That sensor recognizes any activity such as breathing or heartbeat. A small motor like instruments provides motion in the opposite direction, with the help of which the camera points to point similar to optical path physical scene. 
 
But in Digital Image Stabilization (DIS), the thing is different in that the Pixels of Sensor or camera’s focal plane are used to sense when things are moving and then it adjusts the pixel from the cone to the exposure. Do the work of collecting light. All these things are done by Computer Chip which is inside the Camera. For this reason, more “extra” pixels in the camera should be on the sides of the focal plane so that it can accommodate motion.
 

Why OIS is better than EIS

 
The main advantage that OIS possesses is that there is no image degradation at all. It is because whatever compensation you have to do here is done before reaching the optical signal CCD. But here, a little more hardware is required to do the mechanical motion. It also puts pressure on the battery but the weight of the device does not increase. 
 
EIS is much cheaper and lighter weight than OIS. Image degradation is reduced to a great extent due to the better algorithm here. But if used in low light, then OIS is much better than EIS because of no image degradation.
